Some Basic Info About Film Festivals

Since the advent of the camera many, many years ago, tons of movies, television shows, and films have been produced. So many, that it is hard to quantify the amount. Regardless of the number, every year there are countless film festivals around the world commemorating and introducing films. Generally, the film festivals include awards given out to the best films, actors, and so on. Let us take a closer look at some of these film festivals.

In almost every country, there are film festivals that take place. Some countries have one while others can have more than thirty or forty. Canada hosts one of the most film festivals in North America. Let’s take a closer look at some of these film festivals in Canada.

Canada itself hosts over one hundred film festivals around the country, the most in Toronto. The reason why Toronto is such an attractive place to host festivals of this sort is because the population here is the most for any Canadian city, but also because the population is culturally diversified compared to other cities in Canada. Places like Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax all have large populations but not as large as Toronto. Second, these other cities do not have as diverse of a population as Toronto, therefore film festivals are better suited for Toronto. This, however, does not mean that other cities do not host their own film festivals.

Vancouver hosts a few film festivals including Vancouver International Film Festival and Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. The city of Montreal hosts some fascinating festivals like the Montreal International Film Festival, Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival, and the Montreal Underground Film Festival.

There are also other countries that host film festivals including India, France, England, Pakistan, United States of America, Germany, Belgium, South Korea, Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia and many more. Let’s take a look at some of these festivals.

There is the Ann Arbor Film Festival in Michigan, 168 Film Festival in California, Atlanta Black Film Festival in Georgia, Bel Air Film Festival in Los Angeles, California, Berlin and Beyond Film Festival in San Francisco, Big Apple Film Festival in New York, Boston Film Festival in Massachusetts, Chicago International Film Festival in Illinois, Cleveland International Film Festival in Ohio, and many more.

Moving on to Europe, there are quite a few film festivals. These include Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, Cannes Film Festival in France, Festival del film Locarno in Switzerland, Moscow International Film Festival in Russia, San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, Venice International Film Festival in Italy and much more. In Asia there are quite a few notable festivals including International Film Festival of India, Shanghai International Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival as well as many more.

All in all, there are countless number of movies made each year, and therefore a countless number of film festivals hosted to match. All over the world, no matter where you are, if you are a fan of films, then a film festival is close by.
